If you love all things miniature and magical, you’re going to have a blast making these tiny scrolls. Whether you’re crafting for a wizard’s library, a fantasy dollhouse, or a tabletop gaming setup, these mini scrolls add just the right touch of old-world charm.
I recently saw a fun tutorial on YouTube and was inspired to try it—only I did mine a little differently. Instead of painting the paper brown, I used some thick, aged-looking paper I found on Amazon, and the results turned out rustic, magical, and so satisfying to make!
Here’s exactly how I made these miniature scrolls!
Mini Scrolls Tutorial and Materials I Used

- Old-looking thick paper (I got mine on Amazon – you could also tea stain your own, but I took the easy route!)
- Mod Podge (for sealing and shaping)
- Wax paper (for drying)
- Optional: thread, tiny wax seals, stamps for extra detail

From just one sheet of the aged-looking paper I bought on Amazon, I was able to make 8 mini scrolls. I tore the paper lengthwise along the short 8-inch side, creating narrow, uneven strips that looked more authentically old and worn.
The thickness of the paper held up well during the tearing and Mod Podge process, and each strip was just the right size to roll into a perfectly miniature scroll. It was such a fun way to stretch one sheet into a whole little collection!
This craft tutorial is simple and quick. Really, all you do is tear paper and paint glue on the strips, and roll them up! It is fun and satisfying to make these!
How I Made My Mini Scrolls – Step-by-Step
Tear the Paper into Strips

I used the short side of the paper (about 8 inches wide) and tore it down into rugged strips. Tearing by hand gave them a nice uneven, aged look, which I love for a fantasy feel. I just kept tearing until I’d used up the whole sheet, which again gave me 8 scrolls per sheet. This will vary depending on how wide you tear the strips.
Seal with Mod Podge

I painted both sides of each strip with Mod Podge, which not only stiffened the paper a bit but also helped the scrolls hold their shape as they dried. The Mod Podge acts like a sealant, giving the paper that sturdy, parchment-like feel, and ensures that each scroll stays tightly rolled without unwrapping.
It also gives the paper a slight glossy finish, which adds to the aged effect once it dries. This step was key to achieving that perfect, authentic scroll look—firm, but still flexible enough to give it a realistic, old-world charm.
Roll ‘Em Up

While the Mod Podge was still wet, I gently rolled each strip into a scroll shape, being careful not to press too hard so I could maintain the natural unevenness of the torn edges. You can choose to roll them tightly for a more compact, neat scroll, or loosely for a more relaxed, rustic look—both styles work great, depending on the vibe you’re going for.
Let Them Dry

Once rolled, I placed the scrolls on a sheet of wax paper to dry. The wax paper prevents them from sticking to the surface and allows the Mod Podge to set evenly without any fuss.
Letting them dry in this position also helps the scrolls keep their shape and ensures they won’t unroll once they’re completely dry.
I let them sit until completely dry. They firm up nicely and hold that perfect “ancient scroll” look once set.
How to Use Your Mini Scrolls
Add to a Dollhouse Bookshelf or Writing Desk
These mini scrolls make the perfect addition to any dollhouse bookshelf or writing desk. Whether you’re crafting a wizard’s study or a historical library, the scrolls add an extra layer of realism and charm. Place them in the corner of a tiny shelf or stack them neatly on a writing desk for that authentic, lived-in feel.
Tuck Into a Miniature Treasure Chest
Mini scrolls fit beautifully inside a miniature treasure chest, adding a mysterious touch to your collection of tiny treasures. Whether the scrolls contain ancient spells or hidden maps, they’re the perfect tiny secret to hide away. It’s a great way to elevate the fantasy element of any miniature display.
Use as Props for Dungeons & Dragons or Tabletop Games
For tabletop gamers, these mini scrolls are the perfect props for Dungeons & Dragons or other roleplaying games. You can use them to represent ancient scrolls of magic, secret maps, or lost knowledge. They’ll make your gaming table come to life with extra details that enhance the experience for everyone involved.
Decorate a Mini Fantasy Diorama
These scrolls are an easy and charming addition to any fantasy diorama. Whether you’re creating a magical library, wizard’s tower, or enchanted forest, mini scrolls add that perfect finishing touch. They can be scattered around the scene or placed neatly on a table to bring the fantasy world to life.
Glue Into the Pages of a Tiny Spell Book or Display Under a Cloche
For an even more magical effect, glue a mini scroll into the pages of a tiny spell book. It can look like an ancient tome of magic or hidden knowledge. Alternatively, display them under a glass cloche to create a mystical, enchanting look—perfect for any wizard’s collection or magical display.
Tips & Variations
- You can tie them with twine or embroidery thread to keep them closed
- Add tiny labels or stamp symbols for a wizard or alchemy vibe
- Try mixing paper tones for scrolls from different “ages” or “realms”
